ENGINEERING FILES

Through the courtesy of DeLorean Motor Company (Texas), we have been able to digitize thousands of engineering documents and drawings from the DeLorean factory, though only a small portion of them are shown here. While all have been digitized, we are not able to post them all here. We have selected what we think are an interesting sampling of them. Want to see more?  We're looking for an experienced web database programmer who would be interested to volunteer to help us create an editable, searchable interface for these documents to make it easier for users to quickly locate documents that are of interest to them. Contact us for more details.

Engineering changes (eca's)

Picture
Over the course of DeLorean vehicle production, every engineering change proposed - whether implemented or not - was documented, sometimes in great detail.

These provide interesting insights into why and in many cases, when certain changes were made.

process sketches

Picture
Process sketches were created to illustrate the "process" by which parts were installed on the car during the assembly process. Few of these appear to have survived, through we are always on the hunt for more!

temporary substitutions (tsa's)

Picture
During DeLorean production there were times when a particular part on the car was substituted for a different one. This may have been due to a shortage of a part, a trial run of a different design or supplier, or to "use up" stocks of another part as a cost-saving measure. These were documented as "Temporary Substitution Authority" or TSA files.

parts drawings

Picture
These are scans of the aperture card - which contain a bit of microfilm - copies of the engineering drawings for the parts of the car. There are several thousand of these, so we've chosen some of the most visually interesting ones to display here.

constructional trouble (ctr's)

Picture
During the earliest days of assembly at the plant, beginning in December of 1980, as the workers identified parts that did not fit as planned, these reports were created.
Very few of these appear to have survived. Those that have have been found within the engineering drawings for the part in question. The Museum would appreciate hearing from anyone with more details about these reports, or perhaps who has copies of more.
